Arena drive brings 4,000 meals
Kansans started the New Year on a generous note when the new Intrust Bank Arena opened its doors in downtown Wichita. More than 25,000 people showed up on Jan. 2 to tour, bringing non-perishable food donations with them. Volunteers from Andover Boy Scout Troop 533, Quivira Council, collected the food donations for the Kansas Food Bank. Brian Walker, president and CEO of the food bank, said more than 5,200 pounds of food were collected. That’s enough to provide food for 4,000 meals. “As we all know, hunger is year round and does not take a break after the holidays,” Walker said. “We have seen unprecedented need for our services this past year and what a wonderful and easy way to help us insure that those in need have a Happy New Year by helping put food on their table.”
