Senior Food Boxes

One of the ways we help seniors is with the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. This program is for low income seniors in specific counties. Seniors must apply for the program. Once approved, they will receive a monthly food box.

Currently the program is offered via the Kansas Food Bank in the following counties: Barber, Barton, Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Geary, Graham, Hodgeman, Kearny, Kiowa, Labette, Lyon, Marion, Mitchell, Montgomery, Morris, Osborne, Pawnee, Phillips, Russell, Saline, Seward and Sherman.

HOW OLD DOES A SENIOR HAVE TO BE? Must be age 60 or older to participate.

WHAT DOES A SENIOR NEED TO APPLY?
• Valid driver’s license or state ID for everyone in your household
• Proof of Address – utility bill, lease rental agreement, bank statement
• Proof of income – pay stubs for the past 30 days or a social security statement, unemployment and any retirement information such pension received. (unfortunately we cannot accept copies of bank statements)

WHAT FOODS ARE PROVIDED TO PARTICIPANTS?
Food packages include a variety of foods, such as nonfat dry and ultra high temperature fluid milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables.

Our partner agency, United Methodist Open Door, offers the program in the following counties: Butler, Chautauqua, Cowley, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Pratt, Reno, Sedgwick, Stafford and Sumner. Their number for more information is 316-267-4201.
