Wednesday, November 13th 2024 – Cargill, the Kansas Food Bank, and partners from numerous local Wichita food pantries joined together today in celebration of Cargill’s gifts to the Kansas Food Bank to feed our neighbors this Thanksgiving and beyond.
See the press conference in its entirety below, and please join us in thanking Cargill for their gifts this holiday season:
- Honeysuckle White Turkeys – Donation of 40,000 pounds of turkeys
- $150,000 Protein Purchasing & Nourishing Kansas Grant
- $100,000 Food 4 Kids Matching Opportunity
Just in time for the holiday season, the Kansas Food Bank received approximately 4,000 Honeysuckle White turkeys for distribution through its HungerCare partners, thanks to a generous donation from Cargill. This marks the eighteenth consecutive year Cargill has provided holiday turkeys for Kansas families through the Food Bank’s extensive network of partner agencies.
Representatives from many of our Wichita partner pantries joined us for the presentation including Table of Hope, Living Waters Ministry, Westside Good Neighbor Center, Bread of Life, Augusta Community Caring Center, Our Daily Bread, Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, Madison Ave Fresh Start Pantry, Hope Connections of SW Butler County, and St. Pat’s – The Lord’s Pantry.
The turkey donation is part of Cargill’s Honeysuckle White Guide to Good campaign, which emphasizes giving back and ensuring families can celebrate a meaningful holiday with nutritious, high-quality turkey on their tables.
“Cargill is proud to partner with the Kansas Food Bank for nearly two decades in our shared mission to nourish people for a more food secure world. This collaboration reflects our commitment to giving back to the community and ensuring that more families can experience the joy and comfort of a nutritious meal not only during the holiday season, but every day.”
-Tom Windish, President of Cargill protein’s Primary Business Division
In addition to the donation of 40,000 pounds of turkeys, thanks to the Cargill CARES committee, Cargill announced a $150,000 gift for the Kansas Food Bank to be used for the purchase of protein items and to support our partner agencies through Cargill’s Nourishing Kansas grant opportunities. Partner agencies will be invited to apply for grant funding in the coming months.
Cargill is also extending its generosity by announcing a special matching opportunity for the Kansas Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids weekend backpack program. Cargill will match all donations up to $100,000, doubling the impact of each dollar contributed. This matching campaign supports the Food 4 Kids program, which provides nutritious weekend meals to food-insecure children across Kansas, helping ensure no child goes hungry when school meals aren’t available.
“Kansas Food Bank is deeply grateful for our longstanding partnership with Cargill. With this generous gift, Cargill is helping to put nutritious food on the tables of Kansans this holiday season and providing crucial support that extends well beyond the holidays. We are thankful for Cargill’s commitment to our mission of ensuring no Kansan goes hungry.”
-Brian Walker, President & CEO of Kansas Food Bank
