WICHITA, KANSAS | May 20, 2026 – As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, America250, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Kansas Food Bank welcomed a fully-loaded JustServe/America250 branded truck carrying up to 40,000 pounds of Church-donated food for families in need across Kansas. The shipment included a variety of staple food items such as canned fruits, vegetables, and meats; pasta; flour; pancake mix; and dried milk. Most of the food is produced by the Church and funded through donations from its members.

The delivery is part of a national collaboration kicked off in November 2025, in which 250 truckloads of food will be donated to communities in all 50 states. Through America250’s America Gives initiative and the Church’s JustServe platform, volunteers, local leaders, and community organizations are coming together to put service into action.
“As we mark this historic milestone, we hope to foster a spirit of unity, peacemaking, and goodwill,” said Elder Gerrit W. Gong, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “The anniversary is an opportunity for all to come together, serve together, and express gratitude for the freedoms that have allowed all faiths — including ours — to flourish.”
In addition to the donation, nearly 200 church members marked the day by volunteering throughout the day at the Kansas Food Bank, helping sort and prepare food for distribution to families across the region.
“This partnership represents the power of service to bring people together and meet critical needs in our communities,” said Brian Walker, President & CEO of the Kansas Food Bank. “We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation and the volunteers who are giving their time to help us serve our neighbors.”
JustServe is a community service platform sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that connects volunteers with local service opportunities. Its purpose is to help individuals and organizations strengthen their communities by serving together.
