What if helping fight hunger in your community was as easy as checking your mailbox?

Saturday, May 9th marks the anniversary of the largest one-day food drive in the nation – the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive.
Each year, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive makes it incredibly simple for families across our region to make a difference—no extra trips, no complicated steps. Just generosity and a little bit of planning.
In the days leading up to May 9th, you may notice a familiar blue bag arriving in your mailbox. This bag is your invitation to take part in one of the largest one-day food drives in the country. All you have to do is fill it with nonperishable food items—things like canned vegetables, pasta, peanut butter, and cereal—and place it by your mailbox on the morning of May 9th. From there, your letter carrier will pick it up and ensure it gets delivered to the Kansas Food Bank.
It’s a small act that adds up in a big way.
Over the past several years, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has brought in an average of 100,000 pounds of food annually for our Kansas neighbors facing food insecurity. That’s 100,000 pounds of support, relief, and care shared across our community. And this year, we’re setting our sights even higher.
But reaching that goal depends on participation—on households like yours choosing to fill that blue bag instead of setting it aside.
Every can, every box, every bag matters. Together, they help stock shelves, support local pantries, and ensure families have access to the food they need.
So when you see that blue bag arrive, take a moment to fill it. Set it out on May 9th. And know that something as simple as leaving a bag by your mailbox can help change lives.
Let’s work together to stamp out hunger—one bag at a time. 💙
